Coming This Week!

Week of July 8, 2012—An Interview with Frances Gilbert
Quote of the week:
That's why editors and publishers will never be obsolete: a reader wants someone with taste and authority to point them in the direction of the good stuff, and to keep the awful stuff away from their door.
Walter Jon Williams

This week we have a special treat. We will be learning from Frances Gilbert, Editorial Director at Doubleday Children’s Books, Random House. Frances just moved to Doubleday after twelve years at Sterling Children’s Books where she served as Vice President and Publisher.

When I featured a week of posts with Tammi Sauer and Dan Santat celebrating the release of Bawk & Roll, Frances sent me a nice email. Several years ago, Frances discovered what would become Tammi’s first book, Cowboy Camp, in the slush pile at Sterling, and she worked with Tammi and Dan on Chicken Dance and Bawk & Roll.

Since then, Frances and I have kept in touch from time to time via email. I was thrilled when she agreed to be interviewed for Picture This! After reading her responses to my questions, I knew you would be thrilled, too. Get ready for a wonderful week with Frances Gilbert!
