Lisa Wheeler Retrospective

Week of May 8, 2011—An Interview with Lisa Wheeler
Friday—Lisa Wheeler Retrospective

What a great week! Thanks to Lisa Wheeler for charming us with her wit and sharing her knowledge along the way. Let’s end the week with a look at several of Lisa’s fantastic picture books. I hope you have a chance to check them out (or purchase them!) soon.

Boogie Knights
By Lisa Wheeler and Mark Siegel

A wonderfully spooky romp through a castle where seven sibling knights sleep at their posts and don’t notice as a cast of creepy characters enter the castle. But even the knights can’t sleep through the Madcap Monster Ball. The rhyming is stupendous and the story is hilarious.

Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum
By Lisa Wheeler and Laura Hulska-Beith

Castaway Cats

The Christmas Boot
By Lisa Wheeler and Glenn Monroe

Dino-Baseball,
Dino-Soccer,
Dino-Hockey, and
Dino-Basketball
By Lisa Wheeler and Barry Gott

Farmer Dale’s Red Pickup Truck
By Lisa Wheeler and Ivan  Bates

I love the simplicity of this story and the country charm. I’ve featured excerpts from Farmer Dale is several posts this year.

Hokey Pokey: Another Prickly Love Story
By Lisa Wheeler and Janie Bynum

Jazz Baby
By Lisa Wheeler and R. Gregory Christie

Love, love, love the jazzy rhythm, the steady beat, the syncopation, and the rhyme!

Mammoths on the Move
By Lisa Wheeler and Kurt Cyrus

Ok, truthfully, I love the art as much as the story in this book. Only Lisa could do a non-fiction, prehistoric rhyming picture book!

Old Cricket
By Lisa Wheeler and Ponder Goembel

One Dark Night
By Lisa Wheeler and Ivan Bates

Sailor Moo: Cow at Sea
By Lisa Wheeler and Ponder Goembel

Seadogs: An Epic Ocean Operetta
By Lisa Wheeler and Mark Siegel

Sixteen Cows
By Lisa Wheeler and Kurt Cyrus

Spinster Goose: Twisted Rhymes for Naughty Children
By Lisa Wheeler and Sophie Blackall

Spinster Goose is a new favorite that tickles my funny bone every time I pick it up. Spinster Goose is a treasure trove of unexpected nursery rhymes—the kind that finally lets us see Mother Goose’s less-than-motherly spinster sister and the students who attend her school.

Turk and Runt
By Lisa Wheeler and Frank Ansley

Ugly Pie
By Lisa Wheeler and Heather Solomon

Uncles and Antlers
By Lisa Wheeler and Brian Floca

Where, Oh Where, Is Santa Claus?
By Lisa Wheeler and Ivan Bates

Wow, that's a lot of PBs! I ordered One Dark Night after reading about it earlier today. (And I already own Old Cricket) I'll have to check out all the rest!

Hi Rob,
Thank you so much for including me in your aesome Blog! I like the way the interview is broken up into a few days. As a person with short-attention span, this worked wonderfully.
Thanks for all your kind words. I want to meet this terrific lady of which you speak. :)
