Week of October 16—Finding Hooks to Inspire Your Books
Quotes of the Week:
The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings.
—Dave Weinbaum
There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors.
—Jim Morrison
I love the core message of the quotes above—new beginnings and open doors. So that’s what we’ll spend some time exploring this week. . . getting inspiration for new writing ideas, opening ourselves up to the possibilities around us, and finding open doors for our work.
Recently I quoted an editor from a major publishing house who told me: “We don’t publish any book that doesn’t have a marketing hook that gives a reason for it to be displayed on shelves.”
This week, I’m brainstorming what some of those promotional hooks might be. Once we have the possibilities firmly in our minds, we can begin dreaming and becoming inspired. We’ll end the week with some of my latest discoveries at my local bookstores and some exciting news about how you can gather tons of ideas to inspire your picture book writing. Are you ready to open doors and enjoy some new beginnings?
