Week of March 11, 2012—20 Tips for Great Picture Book Manuscripts

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.
—Elinor Smith
To prepare my students for our annual state writing assessment, we used a 20-day countdown to help remind us of things we’d learned in class and used to make our writing great. Now that I’m on Spring Break and my mind has turned once again to my own writing, I’ve tried to determine the Top 20 Tips that would help a picture book writer prepare a stellar manuscript. Many of the tips on my countdown are things I’ve discussed at length on Picture This! so I’ll include links when I can to help you delve deeper into the Top 20.
Let’s count it down!
