Week of July 3—Picture Books for Your Summer Reading Enjoyment
Friday, July 8—What Picture Books Do You Recommend?
It’s group participation time! What picture books have you discovered recently? Post a comment and let us know. And if you want, tell us what tips about picture book writing you discovered through the book(s). The more we read, enjoy, and analyze picture books, the better we’ll become at writing them—I’m just sure of it! So share away!

As I already mentioned, I am crazy about A Pet for Petunia by Paul Schmid.
Petunia is the perfect character. She's active, relatable, and flawed. Plus, she is adorable and hilarious.
I can't wait for the companion book! It's called Petunia Goes Wild.
Steve Meltzer shared Betty Bunny Loves Chocolate Cake (at the NJ SCBWI conference in June) and everyone found it hilarious!
Thanks, Tammi and Corey!
So many! Knuffle Bunny, Tacky the Penguin, Little Pea, Little Hoot and Little Oink, Bedtime for Bear, Ladybug Girl, Cookies: Bite Size Life Lessons. Ask me tomorrow and I'd have a whole different list.
They have unique characters with relatable flaws or problems, but lots of humor too. The Cookies book teaches lessons without being preachy.
Nice! THANKS!
Not new ones, but here are a few all time favorites ... (If you have not read them, I really cannot recommend them highly enough - go get a copy today!): Library Lion - M. Knudsen(LOVE it - and how I wish longer texts would be acceptable again!! This one comes in at about 1,354 words); Koala Lou - Mem Fox; If You Listen - C. Zolotov; The Relatives Came - C. Rylant; Sailor Moo - L. Wheeler; Beautiful Warrior - E. A. McCully; The Knight and The Dragon - T. DePaola; Bear Snores On - K. Wilson; and Fritz and the Beautiful Horses - J. Brett (one of her early ones; what a lovely message, with exquisite art from Brett, as always).
