Week of June 19—Main Characters
Quote of the week:
First, find what your hero wants, then just follow him!
—Ray Bradbury
Pick up any book about writing picture books; log on to any blog, online article, or web site; or attend any conference, and one of the first things you will hear about is the importance of the main character. Of course, the character is central to any book, but with the fierce competition in the picture book market and the kids being attracted by all matter of media, a compelling main character becomes even more important. This week we’ll spend some time learning how to develop main characters.
Monday—Finding Great Main Characters
Tuesday—Active Main Characters
Wednesday—Relatable Main Characters
Thursday—Flawed Main Characters
Friday—Anthropomorphic Main Characters
